it shall be deported from, and shall thereafter remain out of, the United Kingdom. In practice it is necessary to ascertain to what country the alien belongs, since no other country can be called upon to receive him; but once the alien has left the United Kingdom, His Majesty's Government while ready to pay for his journey to his proper country, is not concerned to see that he reaches his destination, and has, in fact, no means of doingso, if he cannot be sent by a direct sea route. The point might not be of practical importance in the case of a Javanese deported from the Straits Settlement s but it might arise in the case of nationals of other countries, or of aliens deported from other Colonies in the Far East.
